Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.1.10.3.1 - Identify the purpose and audience of a speech and set goals in the context of assigned topics (e.g. about familiar persons)

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • State the purpose of a model speech (to inform, to persuade, or to entertain) after listening to or reading it.
  • Identify the intended audience of a speech by pointing to clues in the language and content.
  • Explain the difference between a purpose and a goal when preparing a speech.
  • Set at least two simple goals for a speech about a familiar person, such as a family member or a friend.
  • Use complete sentences to state the purpose, audience, and goals of their assigned speech topic.
