Indicator: B3.1.10.1.2
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least five different non-verbal cues (such as smiling, nodding, eye contact, gestures, and posture) and state what each one communicates.
- Demonstrate appropriate posture, facial expression, and gestures while speaking to the class.
- Use verbal cues such as tone and volume appropriately to match the message they are conveying.
- Explain the meaning of the non-verbal cues they used in their own presentation.
- Evaluate a classmate’s presentation by naming at least two non-verbal cues used and discussing whether they were appropriate.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
- Demonstrate use of appropriate posture, verbal and non-verbal cues to communicate meaning, e.g. nodding, smiling, etc. to show approval. - Discuss the various non-verbal cues (e.g. facial expression, eye contact, crossed arms, etc.) you used and their meanings with learners. - Let the groups plan their presentations on an appropriate topic. - Give each group time to present and have the class talk about the appropriate verbal and non-verbal cues used.
