Indicator: B6.3.10.1.1 - Use prepositions to convey a variety of meanings

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. identify at least four common prepositions (on, in, near, under) in given sentences.
  2. explain the different meanings prepositions convey: time, purpose, possession, comparison, and support or opposition.
  3. use prepositions of time, purpose, possession, and comparison correctly in their own written sentences.
  4. use prepositions of support or opposition (for, against) in sentences to express a point of view.
  5. construct a short paragraph containing at least five different prepositions that convey different meanings.

- Revise prepositions such as those that convey meanings of position, time, direction, possession and comparison. Write examples of sentences to illustrate this.
- Have learners identify common prepositions (on, in, near, under) in sentences. Let them use these prepositions in sentences.
- Introduce prepositions that show support or opposition in context. E.g. for you, against you. Let them identify these prepositions in texts they have read e.g. reading passages, stories, etc.
- Learners now write their own sentences with the prepositions.
