Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.1.3.1.3 - Compose six-line poems.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Compose a six-line poem on a familiar topic with a clear central idea
  • Arrange their own meaningful lines in a logical sequence to form a complete six-line poem
  • Recite their composed poem individually and in groups with expression and confidence
  • Identify values such as honesty, hard work, unity or respect in poems composed by their peers
  • Give one or two constructive comments on a classmate’s poem using simple language

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Have learners recite a poem of their choice individually and in groups.
- Put learners into groups and ask them to write out some lines of the recited poems.
- Assign learners to create or write some meaningful lines similar to those in the poem of their choice.
- Guide learners to arrange their formulated lines together to compose a poem of six lines.
- Have each group recite their poem while others listen.
- Ask the class to identify the values in the poems as they listen to recitations.
