Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.1.3.1.2 - Identify and discuss values in poems

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State the meaning of “values” and give at least two examples of values from everyday life.
  2. Identify at least two values taught in the poem “The Cat and the Mouse”.
  3. Discuss in small groups what the poem teaches about how people should treat one another.
  4. Present the group’s findings to the whole class using clear sentences.
  5. Recite the poem with improved rhythm and expression while explaining one value it teaches.

Position in the sequence: This lesson builds on learners’ ability to recite poems with stress, rhythm and actions (B4.1.3.1.1, Term 1 Week 1). It stops short of composing original poems, which is scheduled for Term 1 Week 2 (B4.1.3.1.3).
