Learning Objectives
Indicator: K2.6.6.1.7 - Classify different types of food items according to categories and count the number of objects in each category up to 20.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Sort a mixed collection of food items into three groups: fruits, vegetables, and seeds.
- State one distinguishing feature of each food category (for example, fruits have seeds inside, seeds are the planting part of a plant, vegetables are other edible plant parts).
- Count the number of items in each sorted group accurately up to 20.
- Match a numeral card (1 to 20) to the correct quantity of items in each group.
- Work with a partner to sort, count, and report the totals for each food category.

Provide a variety of fruits, vegetables and seeds. Have the learners sort and classify them into their three categories. Fruits in one group, seeds and vegetables. Count the number of objects in each category up to 20. E.g. guide learners to count the number of food item and pick a numeral card which matches the number quantity.
