Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.2.3.2 - Create own visual artworks that reflect the physical and social environments of some communities in the world

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and describe at least two physical features (landforms, climate, vegetation) and two social features (housing, clothing, occupations, festivals) of a community in the world studied in class.
  2. Present a design concept for an artwork that combines physical and social elements of a chosen world community.
  3. Create a visual artwork using one selected media (clay modelling, painting, paper collage, or papier mâché) that reflects the physical and social environment of a chosen community.
  4. Explain, during a class jury, how the elements in their artwork represent the physical and social environment of their chosen community.
  5. Provide constructive feedback on peers’ artworks based on how well the artworks reflect the community’s environment.

Learners are to:
- present and share design concepts that reflect knowledge and understanding of the physical and social environments in the world;
- demonstrate embedded knowledge, skill and experience in the application and use of selected media, technique etc. to make own creative and functional artworks (e.g.
- clay, plasticine, papier mâché (paper pulp) etc. for modelling and casting;
- straw, yarn, paper, cane, bamboo stakes, etc. for weaving;
- odds and ends for construction and assemblage;
- brushes and paint for painting;
- dyes for dyeing
- craft tools for perforating, shaping and punching;
- folding and shaping paper to make origami and quilling;
- spatula and scooping tools for modelling;
- needle for sewing, etc.;
- discuss, compare and share experiences through jury and peer review.
