Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.5.3.1.4 - Demonstrate how to clarify user requirements
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State at least three questions a maker should ask a user before producing an artefact or product.
- Explain the difference between a user requirement and a maker’s assumption.
- Develop a short user requirements checklist for a given product using the workshop drawings, cutting list, and safety notes from earlier planning stages.
- Practise interviewing a classmate as a “user” and record their requirements accurately.
- Summarise their findings and justify how the collected user requirements will influence the making process.

1. Study the working drawings and cutting list obtained from the communication design. 2. Observe the workshop environment to identify the health and safety needs of the work. 3. Study workshop rules and regulations for better familiarisation before the actual work. 4. Study about the needed materials, tools and processes to be employed for better understanding. 5. Write down a summary of your study and observations and discuss in class. 6. Experiment with similar materials, tools and processes to gain confidence prior to the making of artefacts.
