Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.3.1.1.3 - Demonstrate understanding of the phonemic changes of the simple verb patterns.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the additional letter (hamza, taa, or noon) added to a trilateral Arabic root and state its phonemic effect on the verb pattern.
  2. Read the simple verb patterns in the Form II (ﱠعّل and Form IV (لَعْفَأ) patterns aloud with correct pronunciation, including the shadda and long vowels.
  3. Distinguish between the meaning and sound of the base root form and the derived forms when reading a fully-vowelised text.
  4. Classify given verbs according to the additional letter used: hamza, taa, or noon.
  5. Demonstrate understanding by explaining how adding a letter to a root changes both the pronunciation and the meaning of the word.
