JHS2 Arabic · Term 1, Week 3
Phonics of Arabic Language
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.1.1.2.3 - Demonstrate listening skills through dictation of simple Arabic sounds patterns.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Listen attentively to short Arabic sentences read aloud by the teacher and write them down accurately, with particular attention to words containing the ل (laam) sound.
- Distinguish between the solar letter (الحرف الشمسي) pronunciation of ل when it is assimilated into the following consonant, as in الشَّمْس, and the lunar letter (الحرف القمري) pronunciation where ل is pronounced clearly, as in القَمَر.
- Apply correct spelling of words containing ل in dictation, including words where ل appears at the beginning, middle, or end of a word.
- Use context clues from a read sentence to correctly write words that sound similar but have different spellings, such as لَعِبَ (he played) versus لَعِب (play/past participle usage).
- Self-correct their written work by comparing it with the original text read by the teacher, identifying and fixing errors in ل-related spelling.
