Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.1.1.1.3 - Demonstrate understanding of diversity of language syllables by sifting and selecting peculiar Arabic sounds.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Listen to and identify sounds that are peculiar to Arabic and do not exist in English or in major Ghanaian languages (such as ح, خ, ص, ض, ط, ظ, ع, غ, ق).
  2. Sort a mixed list of Arabic words into groups based on shared peculiar sounds (for example, words containing خ versus words containing غ).
  3. Pronounce short words containing peculiar Arabic sounds accurately after hearing the teacher model them.
  4. Select the odd word out from a set of three or four words based on its dominant sound pattern.
  5. Match Arabic words heard aloud to their correct written forms on a chart, board or worksheet.
