Indicator: B5.4.13.2.3 - Establish and maintain a formal style
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify features of formal style in a model argumentative passage, such as standard vocabulary, complete sentences, and avoidance of slang.
- Distinguish between formal and informal language by sorting given expressions into two categories.
- Rewrite informal sentences into formal English appropriate for an argumentative essay.
- Produce a short argumentative paragraph (or group composition) on a given topic that maintains a formal style throughout.
- Give and receive feedback on the formality of classmates’ writing during group presentations.
