Personal, Workshop and Food Laboratory Safety

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.1.2.1.2 - Use appropriate personal protective equipment when working

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least six types of personal protective equipment (PPE) and match each one to the body part it protects.
  2. Explain at least three reasons why wearing PPE is important in the workshop, food laboratory, and at home.
  3. Demonstrate the correct way to put on, wear, and remove goggles, gloves, and a nose mask.
  4. Work in groups to design and stitch a simple cloth nose mask using locally available materials.
  5. Assess their own and others’ finished PPE items against a simple checklist for fit, coverage, and quality of stitching.

This lesson builds on the reporting procedures learners studied in Week 2 (B9.1.2.1.1). It prepares them for Week 4 (B9.1.2.1.3), where they will maintain safe working environments.
