SHS3 Design And Communication Technology · Semester 1, Week 8
Pattern Design
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.1.3.LI.3 - Finalise the 3-dimensional template and pattern design.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Evaluate peer feedback on their 3-dimensional freehand-drawn templates and patterns using objective criteria such as proportion, line quality, symmetry and accuracy of the 3D form.
- Apply constructive criticism and suggestions from peer presentations to make at least three specific improvements to their own template and pattern drawings.
- Present their finalised 3-dimensional template and pattern design to the class, clearly explaining the improvements made based on feedback received.
- Write a short group report explaining the step-by-step process used to create and finalise their 3-dimensional template and pattern, including how the design can benefit the community.
- Justify the design choices made in their finalised template and pattern, demonstrating extended critical thinking about the functional and aesthetic qualities of their work.

Managing Talk for Learning: Learners in groups present their developed 3-dimensional free hand-drawn templates and patterns in class and record criticisms and suggestions from their peers. Learners should look at their work objectively with their peers for things they can improve. They should also gather feedback from their peers. Group work/Collaborative Learning; Problem-based Learning: Learners In small groups use the feedback they receive from their peers in class discussion to make their drawings better. Group work/Collaborative Learning; Project-based Learning: Learners in small groups write a report explaining how they made their drawings and demonstrate how their 3-dimensional free hand-drawn templates and patterns can be useful for the community. Assessment (3.1.3.AS.3). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning. Teaching and Learning Materials: - Models - Charts - reference books - drawing studio - access to internet - LCD Projector, sketches. - Pencils - Erasers - Pencil sharpener - Sketch pads - Drawing pens or ink - Blending stumps - Charcoal
