Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.3.LI.3 - Lire et réagir à un texte sur des évènements historiques du Ghana (Compréhension des écrits).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Read and understand a short text in French about a key historical event in Ghana (such as the transatlantic slave trade, the Gold Coast colony, or independence).
Identify the main characters, dates and places mentioned in a written text about Ghanaian history.
Answer comprehension questions (Level 1 recall and Level 2 conceptual understanding) on a text about Ghanaian historical events.
React to the text by giving a personal opinion or asking clarifying questions, using simple French phrases.
Summarise the main idea of a short historical text in two or three sentences in French.

This lesson builds on Week 9 work (listening and speaking about historical events, indicators 1.3.3.LI.1 and 1.3.3.LI.2). Learners already know basic vocabulary for talking about dates and historical figures. This week shifts to reading and written comprehension. The next slot (Week 11) will require learners to write their own historical texts, so today’s focus on identifying text structure and extracting key information prepares them for that task.
