Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.4.6.1.1

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least three different modes of writing (narrative, descriptive, and persuasive) from sample texts and state the purpose of each.
  2. Identify the target audience for a given piece of writing by examining its language, content, and text features.
  3. Match a writing purpose to an appropriate mode of writing (for example, persuading a friend to join a club calls for persuasive writing).
  4. Rearrange jumbled paragraphs into a coherent piece of writing that follows a logical order.
  5. Explain, in their own words, why the choice of mode, purpose, and audience matters before beginning to write.
