SHS2 Ict · Semester 1, Week 4

Organising, Managing and Presenting Information Using Essential Productivity

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.1.1.LI.4 - Apply sorting and filtering operations to manipulate tables.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define sorting and filtering and explain the difference between the two operations.
  2. Apply ascending and descending sort orders to arrange numerical and textual data in a spreadsheet table.
  3. Use filtering operations to display only the data subset that meets given criteria (for example, values above a certain amount or records matching a specific name).
  4. Explain how sorting and filtering work together to help analyse data more effectively in a spreadsheet.
  5. Demonstrate the correct steps for sorting and filtering a given data table on a spreadsheet application (or by writing step-by-step instructions, where devices are limited).

The official curriculum document has a fault in this entry, so the curriculum text above is transcribed exactly as printed:

  • content standard text - p.48: the content-standard token is visibly printed `2.1.1.CS1`, which omits the separator before the final sequence; `2.1.1.CS.1` is used as the import code only to preserve the document's year/strand/sub-strand association
