SHS2 Design And Communication Technology · Semester 1, Week 6

Object Manipulation in Drawing

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.1.2.LI.3 - Generate simple forms in line with the concepts and narratives associated with objects and designs.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Recall at least two concepts or narratives associated with a given local object or design presented in class.
  2. Explain how the concept or narrative behind an object influences the way it is drawn or designed.
  3. Generate a simple drawn form of a chosen object that clearly reflects its associated concept or narrative, using free-hand drawing techniques and available tools.
  4. Present and justify their generated design to peers, explaining the link between the form and its meaning.
  5. Critique a peer’s design constructively, identifying whether the concept or narrative is clearly communicated through the form.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Managing Talk for Learning: Learners in mixed groups examine concepts, symbolisms, and narratives associated with specific designs and objects using resources like photographs, drawings, sketches, videos, real objects, etc

Project-Based Learning/Experiential Learning: In small groups, let learners select a simple design and use the available tools and free-hand drawing techniques to imitate the object they have selected.

Project-Based Learning: Let learners work individually/in groups to use the available tools and techniques to create a design in line with specific concepts, symbolisms and narratives.

Assessment (2.1.2.AS.3). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
