Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.2.LI.3 - Discuss the role of diet in healthy living

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain what a balanced diet is and list the six classes of food with at least one local Ghanaian example of each.
  2. Describe the deficiency diseases associated with a lack of each nutrient class (for example, protein, iron, iodine, vitamin A) and the effects of overeating common local and foreign diets.
  3. State at least three benefits of eating a balanced diet for physical health, mental alertness, and disease prevention.
  4. Justify the importance of moderation in diet by comparing the consequences of under-eating and over-eating using specific Ghanaian foods as examples.
  5. Design a one-week dietary chart for a family, team, or school reflecting balanced nutrition across all food groups.
