Indicator: B8.5.1.1.3 - Examine how monologues and dialogues are used to convey characters in narratives and play scripts (drama)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Distinguish between a monologue and a dialogue, giving a clear definition and one example of each.
- Identify monologues and dialogues within short narrative passages and play scripts, explaining which character traits or feelings each speech reveals.
- Punctuate dialogue and monologue correctly, including the use of quotation marks, commas, and tags such as “she said” and “he asked.”
- Write an original short dialogue between two characters that reveals at least two distinct character traits.
- Write a short monologue from the viewpoint of a character that expresses that character’s inner thoughts or feelings.
