Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.5.1.1.3, Use basic literary devices in texts (e.g. metaphor, simile, personification, alliteration, assonance, consonance, etc.)

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define the literary devices: metaphor, simile, personification, alliteration, assonance, and consonance, and give one original example of each.
Identify at least four different literary devices when they appear in short extracts from poems, narratives, and plays.
Explain in one or two sentences how a chosen literary device contributes to the meaning or mood of a text.
Write a short paragraph or a four-line poem that deliberately uses at least three of the devices taught in the lesson.
Present their written piece to a partner or small group and point out the devices they used.
