Learning Objectives
Indicator: K2.2.4.1.6 - Comparing length of items and height of learners in the school using non-standard and standardised measures.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Use their feet, rope, thread, or other non-standard tools to measure the length of different objects and spaces in the classroom and around the school.
- Compare the lengths of two objects using the phrases “longer than” and “shorter than.”
- Compare the heights of learners by standing them side by side or back to back and describing who is “taller than” or “shorter than” the other.
- Use a standardised measure such as a ruler or measuring tape to check the length of objects and confirm their comparisons.
- Work in small groups, taking turns and sharing tools, to measure and compare at least three different objects or spaces.

Term is the curriculum's own; the week within it is our suggestion, laid out in curriculum order. Follow your school's scheme of learning.
- Source document note
-
The official curriculum document has a fault in this entry, so the curriculum text above is transcribed exactly as printed:
- indicator text - p.134: printed 'K2.2.2.1.7', the code already used on printed p.128; this row closes sub-strand 2.4, whose family runs .1-.5 on printed pp 132-134 and whose standard cell on this page reads 'K2.2.4 .1', so the structural reading is K2.2.4.1.6; transcribed as printed and left for a human
- indicator text - printed "K2.2.2.1.7" on p.134. Renumbered to "K2.2.4.1.6": the printed code repeats a code already used for a different indicator, and disagrees with this page own sub-strand heading. The target slot is the one gap in that sub-strand run.

Scaffold learners to measure different length of spaces in the classroom and outside the classroom. In small groups, learners use non-standardised tools such as their feet, rope or thread to measure the length of different spaces and objects in the school, tables, their classroom space, the football park, etc. and compare them using phrases such as longer than, shorter than, etc. Using non-standardised measures, compare the heights of different learners in the class to find out who is shorter or taller than the other by having them stand side by side or back to back. Use the phrases taller than or shorter than to describe the learners,
