Indicator: B5.1.3.3.1 - Explain how gender equity can be promoted
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define gender equity and gender stereotype in their own words.
- Identify at least three common gender stereotypes found in their community.
- Explain how gender stereotypes affect individuals, the community, and nation building.
- Describe at least three practical ways to promote gender equity at home, in school, and in the community.
- Work collaboratively in groups to discuss and present ways to promote gender equity, such as women empowerment.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
In groups learners work to elicit gender stereotypes in their community. Learners, in groups identify roles that are to be performed by the sexes. Learners discuss and cross out responses the class considers as stereotypes. Learners discuss some gender issues in the community and how they affect the: i. Individual ii. Community iii. Nation building e.g. widowhood rites, trokosi, witch camps etc. Learners find out from parents and other people in the community some of the customs they consider discriminatory. In groups, learners discuss and present their findings in class. Learners in groups discuss how they will promote gender equity in their community. e.g. women empowerment
