Learning Objectives

Indicator: K1.3.2.1.2 - Recognize the basic components of a book using the Big Book on Showing respect.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Point to and name the front cover page, the body (pages inside), and the end page of the Big Book when asked by the teacher.
  2. Look at the pictures on the cover page and inside the book to predict what the story is about (for example, “children helping”, “a girl sharing”).
  3. Say the meaning of the keywords from the story, including please, sorry, thank you, and respect, using simple sentences.
  4. Use the words please and thank you in a short sentence that shows respect (for example, “Please may I have the book?”).
  5. Count the number of letters in a given polite word, such as please (6 letters), and show the number using their fingers or a number line.

Using a Big book on showing respect/politeness, have learners talk about the front/cover page, the body, and end page of a book. With the use of
picture walk from the cover page illustration and the body/content, have learners predict the content of the text. Discuss the meaning of the keywords before reading the book. Use interactive read aloud to assist learners to make connections with why they need to show respect to each other and their teachers. Have learners use some of the keywords sentences that depicts showing respect. Have learners filling the missing letters in the given polite words e.g. may, respect, please, thank, etc. Have learners count the number of letters they used to fill in the spaces of the words and represent the number of the letters on a number line.
