Learning Objectives

Indicator: K2.3.2.1.4 - Read, use and copy daily greetings and some culturally appropriate and polite language in their self-dictionary/note book.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Read at least five daily greetings and polite words (such as good morning, good afternoon, thank you, please, I am sorry) from word cards after the teacher.
Use at least three polite words correctly in short paired conversations with a classmate.
Copy at least five greetings and polite words neatly into their self-dictionary or jotter.
Match each polite word to the situation where it is used (for example, saying “I am sorry” after stepping on someone’s toe).
Point to and say the first letter of each polite word they copy, linking it to sounds they learned in Week 2.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

List daily greetings and some culturally appropriate words such as thank you, I am sorry, in the home languages on the BB/WB. Have learners read the key words on cards after you 2 to 3 times.
Pair them up to use the polite words in conversation after which they copy them into their jotters/self-dictionary.
