Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.2.1.2.6 - Create/improvise a melody using (I, VI, IV, V) as the ostinato bass line

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and sing the ostinato bass line pattern using solfa syllables (d, l, f, s) corresponding to the I, VI, IV, V chord progression.
  2. Improvise a simple melody over the I, VI, IV, V ostinato bass line using their voices or available instruments (e.g., recorder, keyboard, xylophone).
  3. Rehearse their improvised melody in small groups, ensuring that the melody fits harmonically with the ostinato bass line.
  4. Perform the improvised melody with voice or instrument while other group members maintain the ostinato bass line.
  5. Assess their own and peers’ performances using simple criteria such as pitch accuracy, rhythm, and how well the melody matches the bass line.
