Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.2.1.1.4 - Experiment with available media and techniques for weaving to create visual artworks

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify at least four local weaving media (cane, yarn, raffia, reed, and others they discover) and name three weaving techniques: plain, twill, and satin.
Demonstrate how to set up a simple loom or weaving frame using locally available materials.
Create a woven artefact (a mat, wall hanging, or small bag) using the plain weave technique with correct over-under sequencing.
Compare the visual effects of plain and twill weaves and explain the difference in the pattern produced.
Use art-specific language such as warp, weft, plain weave, and pattern to talk about their own and peers’ finished works during self-evaluation and peer review.
