Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.1.1.2 - Apply techniques of still-life drawing and shading to make own visual artworks

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and name at least five shading techniques (hatching, cross-hatching, smoothing, mass shading, and stippling) used in still-life drawing.
  2. Demonstrate correct pencil control when applying each shading technique to a practice swatch.
  3. Apply at least three different shading techniques to create a complete still-life drawing of a simple object arrangement.
  4. Describe their own artwork and a peer’s artwork using appropriate language, including naming the specific shading techniques used.
  5. Evaluate the success of their own still-life drawing and suggest one specific improvement for future work.
