Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.1.2.6 - Identify durational symbols and move/perform their value in relation to the semibreve

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify by name the durational symbols: semibreve, minim, crotchet, quaver and semiquaver.
  • State the number of crotchet beats each durational symbol represents (semibreve = 4, minim = 2, crotchet = 1, quaver = 1/2, semiquaver = 1/4).
  • Clap rhythmic patterns that combine these durational values at a steady tempo.
  • Move their bodies (walking, stepping, swaying) to show the relative duration of each note value against the semibreve.
  • Work in groups to perform and maintain a simple rhythmic line together, keeping accurate timing.
