Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.2.2.1.2 - Analyse ways of using maps to locate places and get directions.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain step by step how to use a map, a compass, and a GPS-enabled phone to locate a place and navigate to it.
- Use Google Maps or a similar navigation app to locate at least three important landmarks in their own community and describe the route to each one.
- Compare and contrast at least two different methods of map-based navigation (paper map, compass, GPS, Google Maps) and state which is most effective in a given situation and why.
- Analyse the challenges of map making and map use in Ghana and propose at least one practical solution to a challenge they identify.
- Evaluate the importance of maps in everyday Ghanaian life, using at least two specific examples drawn from local experience.

1. In mixed groups, learners describe how to use maps for locating places and navigation. 2. Using geo-techniques (navigation apps, GPS, Remote sensing, GIS, google earth, google maps, etc), learners locate and navigate to some important landmarks in the community. 3. Using storyboarding, learners explore the importance of maps. 4. Using the fish bowl strategy, learners discuss the challenges of map making and use in Ghana.
