Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.3.1.LI.2 - Demonstrate the application and use of cutting tools in manufacturing.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain the specific application of at least five different cutting tools in woodwork and metalwork manufacturing processes.
- Select the appropriate cutting tool for a given manufacturing task and justify their choice based on the material and the operation required.
- Demonstrate correct handling and safe use of common cutting tools during a practical workshop session.
- Evaluate the consequences of using the wrong cutting tool for a particular job, identifying potential damage to both tool and workpiece.

Experiential Learning: Learners visit a local manufacturing industry and observe the use and applications of cutting tools used in woodwork and metal works. Learners share observation with class. Talk for Learning: Through question and answers, learners discuss the application and use of cutting tools and receive feedback. Teaching and Learning Materials: - Cutting tools - Textbook - Library resource - Educational tour to a local manufacturing industry Assessment (3.3.1.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
