SHS1 Manufacturing Engineering · Semester 2, Week 13
Manufacturing Processes
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.2.LI.2 - Discuss cutting, bending and drawing as sheet metal working operations.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define cutting, bending and drawing as sheet metal working operations and state the purpose of each operation.
- Describe how each operation changes the shape and properties of a metal sheet, using correct technical vocabulary.
- Identify common tools, dies and presses used to perform cutting, bending and drawing operations.
- Demonstrate or simulate at least one sheet metal operation (cutting, bending or drawing) in the workshop and explain the sequence of steps involved.
- Evaluate the quality of a simple sheet metal component and suggest improvements to the cutting, bending or drawing process used to make it.

Project-Based Learning: Learners in mixed ability groups manufacture components using cutting, bending and drawing of metal sheets at the workshop. Let learners present their products to the class and describe how the components were manufactured. Encourage groups to tolerate comments of colleagues and examine them critically. - - Teaching and Learning Materials: - Videos and charts of dies and presses used for sheet metal working - Supplementary textbooks - Workshop - Metal cutting - Bending and drawing tools. Assessment (1.3.2.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
