Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.8.1.11 - Catch a flying ball above the head, below the waist, and away from the body while jogging and running.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Demonstrate catching a ball above the head with two hands while jogging at a steady pace.
  2. Demonstrate catching a ball below the waist with two hands while running at a moderate speed.
  3. Show correct body adjustment to catch a ball thrown away from the body while moving.
  4. Apply the catching skills learned in a modified handball or basketball game with peers.
  5. Display teamwork, communication and fair-play during paired practice and game play.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Learners bounce ball on floor with their dominant hands and catch with two hands at the waist level. Toss ball in the air with the dominant hand and catch with two hands overhead. Learners in pairs practice varied form of throwing (above the head, below the waist) whiles jogging or running to catch. Learners progress at their own pace base on their capabilities.
Learners play mini handball or basketball based on the materials used in practicing the skill. Learners cool-down to end the lesson.
