Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.1.13.1.16 - Roll smoothly in a backward direction (back roll).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Demonstrate the correct starting position for a backward roll, including squatting low with hands placed palms up beside the ears.
  2. Perform a smooth backward roll from a squatting position, keeping the body tucked and rounded throughout the movement.
  3. Explain and follow at least two safety rules that prevent neck and head injuries during backward rolls.
  4. Support a partner safely during practice using the correct spotting technique at the hips or lower back.
  5. Complete three consecutive backward rolls on a mat with controlled, smooth movement and proper body alignment.

Learners demonstrate how to roll backwards. Learners in pair by supporting each other to bend backwards smoothly. Learners must be guided to avoid injuries. Those who can roll backwards on their own, should be granted the opportunity to demonstrate to their peers.
