Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.1.8.1.10 - Throw and catch a ball with a partner while both partners are moving using underhand, overhand and sidearm throw patterns.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Demonstrate the underhand, overhand, and sidearm throw patterns with a partner while both are moving across a distance of about 6 metres.
  2. Catch a ball thrown by a moving partner using two hands, with eyes on the ball and hands ready in front of the body.
  3. Coordinate movement and throwing so that both partners keep a steady pace and distance while travelling from one point to another.
  4. Apply the three throw patterns in a modified handball or basketball game while on the move.
  5. Work cooperatively with a partner, showing patience, fair-play and good communication during practice and game play.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Learners go through general and specific warm-ups. Group learners in pairs with a ball. Learners stand about 6m apart facing the direction of movement. Guide them to perform throwing and catching as they move from one point to the other. Supervise them and give the feedback to improve their performance. They play handball, netball or basketball game. End the lesson with cool down.
