Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.1.4.1.5 - Manipulate an object whilst distributing weight and base of support.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Demonstrate at least two ways of distributing body weight (forward, backward, or sideways) while manipulating a ball or object.
  2. Volley a lightweight ball at a target spot using both hands while maintaining a stable base of support.
  3. Bounce a ball repeatedly at a designated spot using hands and then a stick, keeping the object under control.
  4. Explain in their own words how a wider base of support helps them keep balance when handling an object.
  5. Work in pairs to lead and follow a partner through a short manipulative skills practice, showing patience and teamwork.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Learners go through warm-ups. Review base of support as the feet, hands, etc. Learners to volley light balls at a spot. Learners should also bounce ball at a spot or with a stick and ball, learners should lean slightly down and use the stick to manipulate the ball at a spot. Learners end the lesson with cool down.
