Locomotor, Manipulative and Rhythmic Skills
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B2.1.10.1.13 - Demonstrate the different effects of varying arm and hand speeds when hand-dribbling a ball.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Demonstrate hand-dribbling a ball at slow, medium and fast speeds while keeping control.
- Explain how changing the speed of the arm and hand affects the height and direction of the bounce.
- Show that a slower arm and hand speed produces a lower, more controlled bounce, while a faster speed produces a higher, less controlled bounce.
- Apply varying arm and hand speeds during a mini handball or basketball game to maintain control and move effectively.
- Perform the warm-up and cool-down activities correctly, including slow jogging to aid recovery.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Learners go through the warm-up activities. Learners bounce balls (dribble) from one point to the other with varying speed. Help learners to understand that varying the arms and hands speed enables the player to control his or her movement. Observe learners practice and give them corrective feedback for improvement. Organise a mini handball or basketball game for learners to apply the skill in real life situation with fun and enjoyment. End lesson with slow jogging to aid fast recovery.
