JHS1 Science · Term 1, Week 4
Living Cells
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.1.2.1.2 - State the functions of each organelle in a plant cell.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Name at least six organelles found in a plant cell from a diagram or model.
- State the function of each named organelle in a plant cell accurately.
- Match each organelle to its correct function when given a list of functions and organelle names.
- Draw and label a plant cell showing at least five organelles with their correct positions.
- Explain why plant cells have some organelles (cell wall, chloroplasts, large vacuole) that animal cells do not have.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
1. Identify and describe the structure of a plant cell as seen in a video, a chart, pictures and magnifiers. 2. State the function of each organelle in the plant cell. 3. Look at a sample of a plant cell from different parts of a plant with a microscope, magnifier or, watch a video or pictures and confirm that plants are made up of cells. 4. Draw and label a plant cell. 5. Develop a model to represent a plant cell.
