Learning Objectives
Indicator: K2.6.1.1.4 - Recognize at least 75% of letter sounds in words
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Say the sound of at least 12 out of 16 letters of the alphabet when shown the letter card.
- Identify the beginning sound of words related to living and non-living things (for example, /m/ for man, /k/ for cow, /s/ for stone).
- Match at least 6 lowercase letters to their capital letter partners correctly.
- Write both the small and capital form of 6 letters correctly when the letter sound is called out.
- Group themselves and take turns in the Alphabet Relay game, following simple rules and encouraging teammates.

Play Alphabet Relay with learners. Put learners in groups of 4 to compete for letter recognition and writing. Give each group a piece of chalk. Call out a letter and let two pupils from each group run to the chalk board and write both the small and capital letter. Call out another letter and let pupils take turns.
