Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.1.2.1.2 - Initiate and participate in meaningful and collaborative discussions using texts and related materials, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Listen to an extended argumentative text and identify at least three key issues or claims made by the speaker.
- Initiate a discussion by asking at least two open-ended questions about a text or speech they have listened to.
- Build on a classmate’s idea during a group discussion by using sentence frames such as “I agree with Ama because…” or “To add to what Kwame said…”
- Express and defend their own opinion on a discussed issue clearly, giving at least one reason and one piece of evidence from the text.
- Participate in a small-group conference and present the group’s combined viewpoint to the whole class in a persuasive and organised manner.
