JHS2 English Language · Term 1, Week 5
Listening Comprehension
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.1.2.1.2 - Listen to and discuss ideas and share opinions from a level-appropriate text
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Listen attentively to an extended text (such as a short news report or talk show extract) and write down at least four key pieces of information from it.
- Discuss the key information from the text in small groups, using complete sentences to express their understanding.
- Share a personal opinion about an idea from the text, using opinion markers such as “In my view,” “I think,” or “From my perspective.”
- Respond respectfully to a classmate’s opinion by agreeing, disagreeing, or adding a supporting point.
- Summarise the main ideas of the text in one or two sentences, showing that they can distinguish key information from less important details.
This lesson builds on Week 4, where learners practised identifying key information from multi-speaker dialogues. This week, learners move one step further: they not only identify the key information, but they also discuss it and share their own opinions. The skill of responding to others’ opinions will be revisited later in the term when learners engage in formal debates and presentations.
