Indicator: B4.1.7.1.5 - Identify the main idea/gist and details of texts
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State the main idea (gist) of a short story or text in one or two sentences after listening to it read aloud.
- Identify at least three supporting details from a text and explain how each one supports the main idea.
- Retell a short story or newspaper cutting in their own words, keeping the main idea intact.
- Differentiate between the main idea and supporting details when discussing a text.
- Share facts from a story with peers, accurately reflecting the content of the text.

- Have learners read short stories, newspaper cuttings. - Guide them with examples to give the gist and details of the texts. - Guide learners to identify the various text contents as they retell and discuss texts read. - Assist learners to identify themes from the various texts read or discussed. e. g. love, greed, honesty, hard work, etc. - Have them share facts from the story with their peers.
