Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.1.7.1.4 - Share facts from texts heard with a partner, groups or the teacher

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Recall and state at least three facts from an information text read aloud by the teacher.
  2. Use the KWL strategy to share what they already know (K) and what they want to know (W) about a topic before listening.
  3. Answer questions about the text and state what they have learned (L) after the listening activity.
  4. Work in pairs and groups to share facts from the text heard with classmates and the teacher.
  5. Distinguish a fact from an opinion by giving simple examples from the text.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Read an information text aloud to learners, using the KWL Strategy.
- KWL Strategy: Before reading, have learners think-pair-share and talk about what they already know(K) about the title of the text. Have learners ask questions about what they want to know (W). While you read the text, pause often to give the children the chance to share what they have learned or answer the questions they have asked before reading.
- After the reading, have learners share what they have learned.
- Put learners in groups to share facts from the text heard.
