Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.1.2.1.4 - Show ability to deduce meanings of some unfamiliar words and phrases from the context relating to various efforts and measures to minimise impacts of natural disasters.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Listen to a nonfiction Arabic text about natural disasters and identify at least five unfamiliar words or phrases related to disaster prevention and minimisation.
Deduce the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary items such as الزلازل (earthquakes), البراكين (volcanoes), and الأعاصير (hurricanes) using contextual clues from the text.
Explain the meaning of key phrases such as التدابير اللازمة للحماية (necessary protection measures) and الأنشطة البشرية (human activities) in their own words, based on how these phrases are used in the text.
Use contextual evidence from the passage to justify their chosen meanings for at least three unfamiliar words or phrases.
Apply the strategy of context-based deduction to predict the meanings of new words they encounter in a short listening passage about disaster preparedness.
