Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.1.2.2.1 - Show ability to listen accurately and critically, as well as identify implied meanings in a statement in order to respond appropriately.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the topic of a spoken statement on education and career plans by listening for the central word.
- Apply the three steps (identify the topic, find the central word, align a synonym) to clarify implied meanings in statements about school and careers.
- Respond appropriately to statements in a debate on education and career plans by stating the implied meaning in their own words.
- Distinguish between supporting words and the central word in a short spoken passage about further studies or job choices.
- Justify their choice of a synonym that matches the implied meaning of a statement during a class debate.
