Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.1.2.1.2 - Show ability to deduce meaning of some unfamiliar words from a context with prior knowledge of a sports subject.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify at least two known words in a sentence about sports that give clues to the meaning of an unfamiliar word.
Deduce the meaning of at least three unfamiliar sports-related Arabic words by using the surrounding context in a short nonfiction passage.
Explain in Arabic or English the strategy they used to guess the meaning of a new word (using known words, topic knowledge, or sentence sense).
Match at least four unfamiliar sports terms from a passage with their correct meanings, using context clues rather than a dictionary.
Use the deduced meanings to answer simple comprehension questions about a sports text read aloud.
