Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.1.2.1.3 - Identify the difference in intonation of simple phrases relating to numbers, colours and shapes of people and objects in class and school environments.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Distinguish between statements, questions and exclamations when hearing Arabic phrases about numbers, colours and shapes.
Identify the rising intonation pattern typical of yes/no questions in phrases such as هَلْ هَذَا كِتَابٌ وَاحِدٌ؟ (Is this one book?)
Recognise falling intonation in statements such as فِي الْفَصْلِ خَمْسَةُ كُتُبٍ (In the classroom there are five books).
Respond appropriately to questions asked with different intonation patterns by giving a verbal answer or a non-verbal signal (e.g., nodding, raising a hand).
Match spoken phrases about numbers, colours and shapes of items in the class and school environment to the correct meaning based on the intonation used.
