Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.1.2.3.4 - Demonstrate understanding of culturally specific gestures associated with certain special occasions
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the culturally specific gestures and accompanying Arabic phrases used during naming ceremonies, marriages, and moments of condolence in the Ghanaian Muslim community.
- Respond appropriately with the correct Arabic phrase to congratulatory messages given at a naming ceremony and at a marriage celebration.
- Respond appropriately with the correct Arabic phrase of condolence when someone expresses remorse or sadness after a misfortune.
- Explain the meaning of each Arabic phrase used in these special occasions in simple English or Hausa.
- Perform the correct physical gesture (handshake, embrace, raised hands for prayer) that accompanies each spoken response during role-play of these occasions.
