Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.1.2.3.4 - Demonstrate understanding of culturally specific gestures associated with certain special occasions

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the culturally specific gestures and accompanying Arabic phrases used during naming ceremonies, marriages, and moments of condolence in the Ghanaian Muslim community.
  2. Respond appropriately with the correct Arabic phrase to congratulatory messages given at a naming ceremony and at a marriage celebration.
  3. Respond appropriately with the correct Arabic phrase of condolence when someone expresses remorse or sadness after a misfortune.
  4. Explain the meaning of each Arabic phrase used in these special occasions in simple English or Hausa.
  5. Perform the correct physical gesture (handshake, embrace, raised hands for prayer) that accompanies each spoken response during role-play of these occasions.
