Light - Day and Night

Learning Objectives
Indicator: K1.6.8.1.5 - Identify, observe and talk about art in the immediate natural and manmade environment.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Look at a picture or poster of a day or night scene and point to at least two things they see (e.g., sun, moon, stars, torchlight, electric bulb).
- Say one sentence describing something beautiful they see in a day scene and one sentence about a night scene.
- Sort picture cards of light sources into two groups: natural (made by God) and manmade (made by people).
- Count the items in each group and use words like “more than”, “less than”, or “same as” to compare the groups.
- Use art materials (crayons, paper) to draw or colour one natural light source and one manmade light source from their environment.

Using a conversational poster of the sources of light depicting day and night, guide learners to identify the natural and artificial sources. Have learners describe the beauty of the day and night scenes. Have learners connect the lights on the posters to those found in their environment focusing on natural and manmade lights. Guide learners group and count the sources of light in each group and compare them using comparative language. Extend this activity to include additions and subtractions
