Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.2 - Compare the elements of fiction and non-fiction
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Distinguish between the defining elements of fiction and non-fiction prose texts, citing specific evidence from texts read in Week 1.
- Compare and contrast fiction and non-fiction using a structured comparison chart that identifies at least four shared and four distinct elements.
- Interview a classmate about a biography or autobiography they have read and identify whether elements of imagination or fantasy appear in the work, justifying their judgement with examples.
- Present findings from group discussions to show what fiction and non-fiction have in common, using the specific literacy and language of Literature (plot, character, setting, theme, point of view, style).
- Apply critical thinking to evaluate whether imagination plays a legitimate role in non-fiction writing, and defend their position with reasoned arguments.
